Thursday 7 - 8 pm
Instructor: Rebecca Abas
Ballroom dance is a style of partner dance,
enjoyed both socially and competitively. Since its inception, ballroom
dancing has been in continual use as a social art form.
Two main types of ballroom dancing exist:
competitive and social ballroom dancing. Social ballroom dancing,
with its emphasis on having fun and socializing, is enjoyed widely
as a good source of exercise or in special events like wedding.
- Waltz - With its closed
position, Waltz has become the example for the creation of many
other ballroom dances. New types of waltz have developed, including
Argentine Tango Vals. In contemporary ballroom dance, the fast
versions of the waltz are called Viennese Waltz.
- Foxtrot - Step into any
jazz club on a Friday night, and you’re bound to hear a
Foxtrot. It’s America’s favorite dance! Foxtrot has
become a dance of social elegance, characterized by smooth, graceful
and gliding movements and enjoyed by people of all ages. If you
can walk, you can dance the Foxtrot!
- Quickstep - Similar
to Foxtrot, Quickstep is an international style ballroom dance
that follows a 2/4 or 4/4 time beat. This dance is characterized
by its dynamic and lively movements on the dance floor, including
hops, runs, quick steps and rotations.
